Bubble Schmeisis Spring Tour 2017

April 20 - 6:00 pm till May 3 - 9:00 pm

Bubbemeises is Yiddish for a grandmother’s story, a tall story, an old wives’ tale.

Writer and street performer Nick Cassenbaum and his klezmer musicians invite you into the warmth of the Canning Town Schvitz, East London’s last authentic bath house. Amongst the steam and ritual Nick will take you on a journey to find the place he belongs. Schlapping through summer camps, barber shops and Spurs games, will Nick find what he was looking for? Bubble Schmeisis is full of intimate and personal true stories about identity, home and getting schmeised (washed) by old men.

Press quotes:

The Stage ****
Cassenbaum is a gregarious performer and this is an accessible, generous, disarming production, undercut with a sense of poignancy that the schvitz and its rituals might one day be forgotten.

Personal, gently probing exploration of British Jewish identity

The List ****
Cassenbaum gently prods and questions these well-worn images of his culture to question what it means to be a British Jew today.

Cassenbaum is a disarmingly informal raconteur, talking to the audience as if we’re old friends. For anyone with connections to Brick Lane, the North Circular or South Mimms services, it’ll sound warmly familiar; for anyone else, Bubble Schmeisis offers a friendly, gently provocative perspective on Jewish experience.

Three Weeks ****
Effortlessly charming and infectiously funny, ‘Bubble Schemisis’ is everything you’d want from a show.
