Student Action for Refugees (STAR) presents Refugee Rhythms!
We’re back after the tremendous success of our last event to bring you a huge night of afro-beat, jazz, hip-hop, and latin sounds at Yellow Arch Studios. This time round we have a range of the finest live music Sheffield and Leeds have to offer with Têtes de Pois, Forefathers and Necktr joining us with their high energy ensembles. We’ve even got the Sheffield University Samba Band jamming their Latin American style percussion with a special set in the courtyard for us!
As always we’re raising money for a good cause, with proceeds going towards Conversation Club, (http://www.conversationclub.org.uk/), ASSIST Sheffield and South Yorkshire Refugee Law And Justice who provide a range of vital support for Asylum Seekers in our city.
Physical tickets will be available from New Roots (347 Glossop Road) for £6 with no booking fee and from a few ticket sellers.
Online tickets start from just £4 on Party For The People and we’re saving a limited amount of tickets for the door. Don’t wait on this, our last party was jam-packed and we’re expecting the same with this one!

Têtes de Pois
Gracing us with their presence from across the pond, Tetes de Pois is an upbeat 7-piece Leeds based instrumental band, bringing a fusion of hip-hop, afrobeat, neo-soul, jazz sounds. As one of the Tight Lines collective’s bands they have previously supported Ezra Collective and performed at “Love Supreme” festival.
A lively Afro-Funk 7 piece ensemble from Sheffield combining world music of Afro-Beat and Salsa with a healthy dash of Jazz and Funk-Rock. Signed to Mango Disco, you know they’re gonna be good.
The vibrant Leeds band Necktr are a modern soul 9 piece bringing us some global soul, drawing influences from genres spanning from hip-hop, latin, jazz, afrobeat and ambient music.
Sheffield University Samba Band
The Sheffield University Samba Bateria is a drumming group, playing traditional Latin American percussion. They’ll be bringing a variety of rhythms similar to the Rio de Janeiro Carnival style batucada, Afoxe and Samba-Reggae, with an added African influence.
See you all on the dance floor for a good old boogie for charity.
